A word from the Editor
As ever we are trying hard to please our readership and to facilitate this aspiration, we have started to publish certain selected articles by posting them online. This certainly seems to have improved our already high web unique visitor numbers, but the quandary which all publishers try to tackle these days in how to a generate revenue by making their content free to view. Our selected online content is just a fraction of what we publish in the magazine, but publishing is a tough business, especially in a niche publication such as ours.
We are appealing for more subscribers to join our list of readers, but it is like two steps forward and one step back, as some people choose to end subscriptions with us for no apparent reason. Thankfully these in very much in a minority, but in all honesty, I had hoped to press forward with expansion plans by now. Instead, I have been forced to try and save a little outlay, by not covering certain events, most notably the Edinburgh Fringe review coverage.
The accommodation costs in Edinburgh during August are prohibitively expensive, with everyone describing themselves as ‘bloggers’, just because they happen to have a social media account and own a mobile phone. Many even describe themselves as ‘Journalists’. The performers themselves do not seemingly examine their credentials too closely and are forced to settle what is often mere fan-mail which appears to read like an unpublished review.
If we are to press forward, we need more financial support. Hopefully there are more people out there working in our sector of the business who see the value in a national monthly magazine and permanent online presence. Our great showbusiness publishing adventure began ten years ago and, aside from the hiatus period during Covid, we have constantly moved forward, with a great design and online presence and some wonderful writer/contributors.
In our latest magazine edition, we bring you all our usual features and interviews. As ever we hope to interest as many readers as possible with our published content but we are keen also to hear from those who may wish to suggest additional content going forward.
As ever we thank you for your continued support.
