In this month’s UK Cabaret magazine we hear directly from some of our subscribers in our brand new UK Cabaret people section. The Stage run something very similar, but of course our selection of show business subjects will be light entertainment performers and not actors. Many of our growing band of readers are commenting favourably on what we offer. All we have to do is sell a little more advertising and our future will be even more secure. Our showcase plans for the forthcoming autumn and winter period are now taking shape and I am delighted to report that Paul Bridson Productions have invited us to cover their big event at The Grosvenor Hotel, Pulford near Chester. January 13th is the big date and as I was on holiday last year during Paul’s annual event and my replacement couldn’t make it on the night, I shall definitely be there myself to see Paul and his lovely crew of helpers.
We will also be covering John Mills JMA event at Butlins in Minehead next month, as well as Peller Artistes event in Sheffield. We have also just added the John Howe Presentations showcase event to our work diary and will be heading for Bognor Regis in November. It has also just been announced that, in addition to the Showcase Productions event in Blackpool in November, Barrie and Vicci Lucas’s company will stage a showcase at the former Civic Hall (now an arts centre) in Stratford Upon-Avon. Many of us who attended the great days of the Showcall Showcase, back in the days when The Stage used to present the event, will recall the fun, friendship and business that was done back then. UK Cabaret readers may wish to take a look at page 11, where we highlight the Stratford event and look back at past memories.
We only cover showcase events organised by UK Cabaret subscribers and I make no apology for using such events to spread the word about this one year old publication. Hopefully the light entertainment community is now realising that we are growing and developing the UK Cabaret brand and showcase events provide a great opportunity for us to get out there and spread the word about what is still very much a fledgling publication.
