A word from the Editor’s desk for February.
A great time was had by all at the Showcase Productions showcase event, held in Stratford on Avon last month. This issue of UK Cabaret contains detailed review coverage of the event, in which three separate Comperes were engaged. The legendary Tufty Gordon presented the first session and the memories came flooding back, as the Showcall Showcase was staged in this refurbished venue for many years. Chirpy comedian Noel Brodie gave us his take on the role of the Compere during the afternoon sessions, while comedian Lee Lard was the man at the helm of the show during the evening sessions. Producer Colin Jones and his team worked their socks off to make the event the technical success, which it undoubtedly was.
As for the reviews, I myself wrote the first two sessions and the very experienced cruise cabaret and holiday centre entertainment arranger and performer Vicky Bailey wrote the review for session three. My great ally and friend, the comedian and writer Johnnie Tait was on hand to write the reviews for the fourth and fifth sessions. As ever I was immensely grateful for Johnny’s contribution.
Anyone reading the reviews should be aware that, by taking out an annual subscription to this publication, subscribers can have their business contact details listed here free of charge, on our artistes directory, which can be found on page 18 of the magazine version and on line.
An annual subscription to UK Cabaret now costs £30, which constitutes a considerable saving throughout the year. However, for those who took out a subscription during 2015 and before, the price we charge them for an annual subscription has been frozen at just £25. This is in recognition of those who got behind us early in our show business publishing adventure. All income is ploughed straight back into the business. Our aim, is to continue with magazine and web improvements and extend the range of what we produce.
On the subject of advertising, our winter sale continues until the end of March, so discounted advertising packages are available for next month’s issue too. Come and join us!
What we really need, as our advertising base continues to grow, are regional correspondents to send in reports on what is going on in their own local area. Would you like to write reports and reviews for us from your neck of the woods? Please give me a call on Monday to Friday, during office hours, or e-mail mark-ritchie@btconnect.com
